The Security Council is planning to hold closed-door consultations on Libya on Thursday morning, September 29, during which the United Nations Under-Secretary for Political Affairs, Rose Marie DiCarlo, will provide a special briefing, Security Council Report website reveals.

According to the publisher, the UNSC members will vote on a draft resolution that renews the mandates granted under Resolution 2546 of October 2, 2020, allowing member states to intercept ships off the Libyan coast suspected of smuggling migrants.

Earlier, the Security Council had called on the Libyan parties to agree on a path for holding presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, urging member states to comply with the arms embargo imposed on Libya.
