The UN Security Council (UNSC) will hold a session to discuss the situation in Libya on January 15, during which the Sanctions Committee’s reports on Libya will be discussed.

Media sources revealed that Algeria will chair this session, amid the proposal of three new figures to head the UN mission to Libya.

These figures are from Algeria, Yemen, and Pakistan, to succeed Senegalese Abdoulaye Bathily, who resigned from the position in April 2024.

In her briefing to the Security Council in mid-December, Stephanie Koury, Charge d'Affaires of the UN Mission in Libya, revealed her plan, which included several important paths, most notably the priority of establishing one government for all the Libyan people, warning that unilateral measures increased the complexity of the crisis.
