Representatives of the Fezzan Women's Political Movement has stressed the importance of the role that women can and should play in the upcoming municipal elections.
This came during a meeting organized by the Women's Empowerment Section of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya last week, during which the efforts made to mobilize women and encourage them to participate in political life at the level of their local communities were highlighted.
UNSMIL indicated that official voter registration statistics for the 60 municipal councils issued by the High National Elections Commission indicate that the percentage of registered female voters in the southern municipalities reached 36 percent, an increase of 6 points over the national average of 30 percent of the total registered.
