The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Libyan people on the 73rd anniversary of Libya's independence.

“On this occasion, we celebrate not only Libya's hard-won freedom and sovereignty but also the resilience and determination of its citizens”, the UNSMIL said in a statement on its X platform page.

“Regrettably, this anniversary has also served, for the past three years, as a reminder of failed elections and thwarted aspirations of Libyans to express their free will, choose their leaders, and renew institutional legitimacy”, the statement reads.

It also stated “It is crucial for Libyan leaders today to draw inspiration from the legacy of the founding founders, come together to uphold national integrity and sovereignty, and work toward a sustainable future for all citizens. They bear the responsibility to safeguard the nation for which their ancestors sacrificed so much”.
