The spokesman for the House of Representatives (HoR), Abdullah Bliheq, has stated that a copy of the law on electing the head of state and the law on electing the National Assembly had been handed over to the UN envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, based on his request.

For its part, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) confirmed that it had received an official memorandum from the Office of the HoR Speaker, included the approved electoral laws.

“The mission respects the Libyan sovereign institutions and the national ownership of political solutions However, to ensure a smooth electoral process and sustainable peace and stability in Libya, it emphasizes that these solutions must be consensual and implementable”, the UNSMIL added in a statement.

“The Mission is committed to working with all stakeholders to reaching a compromise, including on the formation of a unified government. In consultation with relevant stakeholders, the Mission will assess the implementability of the laws and share the findings with the Libyan people”, the statement reads.
