The US district court of Virginia has notified Khalifa Haftar of the need to attend hearings that start on April 25 in the case lodged against him by Libyan victims’ families in the US.

The court said in a letter to Haftar’s attorney that the hearings can be attended in person or via video conference calls, adding that the new court proceedings for the case came upon a request from the lawyer of the plaintiffs.

The district court of Virginia decided to resume, after being suspended in November 2021, hearings of the case filed against Haftar accusing him of committing war crimes, torture and extrajudicial killings. The suspension was caused by the judge's decision to consider the case intertwined with the then-December elections in Libya.
