The US Embassy in Libya has praised the initiative of UNSMIL to host talks between the main Libyan parties, noting that it provides a path forward to resolve the crisis surrounding the Central Bank.
In a statement, the US Embassy urged all parties to seize the initiative of the UN mission, saying that tension has escalated in recent days, undermining confidence in economic and financial stability in Libya.
It stressed that the current situation has raised concerns among Libyan citizens and the international community, and the possibility of more destructive confrontations.
The US Embassy also expressed its concern over reports of "arbitrary arrests and intimidation of Central Bank employees", and stressed the need to hold those responsible accountable.
