The economic and security challenges facing the southern region were the focus of talks between U.S Ambassador Richard Norland and Head of Libya's Tebu Congress Issa Abdul Majeed Mansour during a phone call on Friday.

Norland reiterated to the Tebu representative the need for concerted efforts to ensure the departure of foreign forces, reunify the institutions, and pave the way for parliamentary and presidential elections as scheduled in December. 24, according to a statement by the U.S Embassy in Libya Saturday.

The embassy noted that the Head of Tebu Congress expressed concern to the American side about the fair electoral representation of ethnic and national minorities, stressing that Norland reaffirmed Washington's support for this core principle.
