The Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Libya, Stephanie Williams, has affirmed the United Nations' support for the elections, as the only and optimal way to achieve the peaceful transfer of power and the aspirations of Libyans towards a secure and stable democratic state.

This came during her meeting with the Chairman of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Imad Al-Sayeh, on Monday.

The meeting reviewed the progress in the preparation for the electoral process, as well ad the latest developments in the Libyan political scene.

“Williams reiterated the United Nations steadfast support to the extraordinary work and efforts of the HNEC. 2.5 million Libyans received voter cards this sends a strong message that the Libyan people yearn for change and democracy”, UNSMIL said in a tweet.
