The Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on Libya, Stephanie Williams, has emphasized that a fully inclusive Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) process is an important peacebuilding tool, along with Security Sector Reform (SSR) to achieve a sustainable peace and security in Libya.

This came during her meeting with the Joint Military Commission 5 + 5 (JMC) on the sidelines of the “Technical Workshop on Modalities of International Support for the DDR Program” in Toledo, which organized by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

“The outcome on the short term will reinforce the security track, and on the longer term, enhance the Rule of Law and promote human rights.  We also reiterated the need to unify all efforts to maintain calm on the ground and preserve the Ceasefire Agreement”, Williams tweeted.
