Around 17 bodies of irregular migrants, including a baby, have washed ashore in the Al-Alous area near Khums city east of Tripoli, the Libyan Red Crescent said on Saturday.

The Red Crescent of Khums branch said its teams have also retrieved ten bodies, including two women, from the same area and rescued three others in cooperation with the Libyan Coast Guard.

The organization posted images showing its workers handling the dead bodies and placing them in special bags.

Other migrants are still at sea waiting for help, the rescued migrants told the teams on the ground.

The Red Crescent confirmed that the search is still ongoing for the rest of the group.

In its report last October, the U.N. migration agency said that more than 1,100 migrants were reported dead or presumed dead in numerous boat mishaps and shipwrecks off Libya so far this year.
