Criminal Division of the Tripoli's Appeals Court sentenced Wednesday 45 convicts to death by a firing squad and 54 others to five years prison time.

The final verdict was in the case of Tariq Sareea (Highway) case that happened in Tripoli in August 2011.

99 out of 128 persons were sentenced and 22 were exonerated, while one person was pardoned. Three others were dealt with earlier while three more died in jail before the verdict was delivered.

The case is about opening fire by gunmen of then regime of Moamar Gaddafi on several residents after hemming them in under a bridge on Tariq Sareea on August 21, 2011, leaving them dead as a retaliatory act while abandoning Tripoli when it had fallen to revolutionaries at the time.
