A group of 50 members of the High Council of State (HCS) have called on the Council's presidency to set a hierarchy as a basis for negotiating with the House of Representatives (HoR), as they demanded the issue be placed at the top of the agenda and put for a vote on Monday's session.

In a statement, the group underscored that the constitutional rule should be adopted by consensus between the two chambers and emphasized the need for the two sides to agree on the election law and set a timeline for implementation.

The agreement with the House of Representatives on a presidential council and a government of technocrats must be limited in number and program, provided it adheres to the constitutional norm with respect to the election schedule, the statement read.

Sovereign positions were among the four-point statement by the 50 HCS members, as they demanded the issue be agreed upon between the two chambers.

Earlier in the day, 24 members of the HCS submitted a proposal to the head of the UN mission in Libya calling for holding a joint session between the HoR and the HCS to adopt a constitutional basis ahead of possible elections.
