90 members of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives (HoR) have called for forming a committee to choose candidates to fill the sovereign posts in Libya in coordination with the High Council of State (HCS) - the rival legislative body in Tripoli.

"It is going to be a procedure in accord with the article 15 of the Libyan Political Agreement and as per Libya's best interest." The members explained in a statement issued Monday.

They also called for communication with the UNSMIL in this regard, besides urging the HCS to form a counterpart committee.

"HoR Speaker Aqilah Saleh tasked the dialogue committee to contact the HCS's counterpart to discuss the LPA's amendments, stressing that there is no dispute over the article 15." The statement reads.

It added that this step must be achieved given the current fragmentation and suffering of the people and given the fact that the HoR is responsible for the state institutions of the legislative authority: Central Bank of Libya, Audit Bureau, Administrative Control Authority, Supreme Court's Chairman, Attorney General, High National Elections Commission, and Anti-Corruption Authority.

Meanwhile, the HCS appointed a committee to sit on the table for LPA amendments' talks to reach practical solutions and to nominate certain persons for the seven sovereign posts in the country as per article 15 of the LPA.

Article 15 says the HCS appoints in coordination with the HoR the persons found fit for the state sovereign posts, including Libya's Central Bank governor.
