A number of Al-Ahly Tripoli fans stormed Salam TV channel's studio in Tripoli during a live broadcast on Monday evening.

A video clip circulating on Libyan social media showed Sheikh Adel Al-Arifi, who was hosting a program before a commotion occurred in the background and he had to leave his seat live on air.

While no official body announced an investigation into the background of the storming and its results, Al-Ahly Tripoli Club said in a statement that the channel “broadcast songs that offend Libyans and question their affiliations and beliefs,” vowing to take measures to sue the channel, boycott it, and prevent it from broadcasting any sporting event in which Al-Ahly Tripoli is a part in the future.

The statement came after the channel broadcast the anniversary celebration of the founding of Al-Ittihad Club, which Al-Ahly Tripoli administration says included “songs offensive to Al-Ahly Tripoli Club.”

Salam TV channel apologized to the fans and management of Al-Ahly Club in Tripoli for the completely unintentional broadcast of offensive chants, and it said that it was committed to neutrality in following sporting and social events, calling on the fans to show sportsmanship.
