The commander of 204 tanks brigade and the defense minister-designate of the UN-proposed government, Colonel Al-Mahdi Al-Barghathi, confirmed he was attacked by gunmen at one of the checkpoints in Al-Marj last Thursday.

Bawabat Al-Wasat, loyal to Haftar, reported one of the brigade’s fighters and an escort to Al-Barghathi as saying that gunmen stopped Al-Barghathi convoy at 115 checkpoint near Haftar’s headquarters, which seemed to be an attempt to arrest Al-Barghathi, when he was heading to Benghazi after he had returned from Tunisia to Labreg airport.

“I demand an investigation into this incident.” Al-Barghathi remarked, according to Bawabat Al-Wasat.

Earlier, the Chief of air force of Khalifa Haftar, Saqir Al-Jroushi, confirmed the attempt to arrest Al-Barghathi, whom he described as a traitor, reaffirming that an order to arrest and try him has already been issued.
