The member of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives, Ibrahim Al-Darsi, announced his withdrawal from the list of signatures in favor of approving the Skhirat government due to what he described as disrespect shown by the other party from the political agreement.

“We have supported the peaceful talks since the launch of the dialogue from Ghadames to Geneva, then to Tunisia until we reached Skhirat, Morocco, aiming at uniting Libyans and sparing them the bloodshed as well as saving Libya from division and building a unified army to protect the country.” Al-Dersi told Press Solidarity Sunday.

He also called for returning to the fourth draft of the agreement, as it is an excellent one, pointing out that the agreement is very good and has gained their support from the start, but when they found violations and predominance by the other party, we rejected it. Yet it does not mean we reject the government, he added.

Al-Dersi mentioned some of the moves, done by the other party, which violate the political agreement such as forming the State Council, controlling Tripoli by a “regional” movement, whom he said are trying to control the State Council too, and calling for legislative authorities.

“The other party did not remain committed to what the agreement said about dismissing all armed militias from the capital, yet it gave legitimacy to those militias, called them an army and gave them numbers. Then they started squandering money on them just like before. It is like someone who says that alcohol is halal just by giving it another name.” Al-Dersi remarked.

He went on to say that the Presidential Council started working before being approved, stressing that for the bodies that came out of the political agreement to be legitimate, they must wait for the vote of constitutional declaration amendment by the HoR, pointing out his rejection to calling “the national army” (Haftar’s forces) armed groups.

Al-Dersi concluded that he is being pressed on the social level by his tribe, saying that his relatives from the tribe met with him to clarify their stance, confirming that he rejected the political agreement because of lack of commitment to what the drafts came up with by the other party.
