The member of the High Council of State from Derna, Mansour Al-Hasadi issued a humanitarian call on Sunday to the Presidential Council of the UN-proposed government and the Tobruk-based HoR as well as the UNSMIL and Derna’s neighboring municipalities asking them to help alleviate the humanitarian and social misery Derna residents are living.

Al-Hasadi explained in his call that Derna is being bombarded frequently and is under crippling siege that affected the civilians, elderly, and kids all alike, in addition to the negligence that led to a deteriorated health sector, lack of flour and medicines, shutting down of banks and recurrent power outages, let alone the blocking of road in the face of travelers.

“All should work hard to tackle the deteriorated humanitarian situation in Derna away from any political and military conflicts and as per the political agreement and the conventions agreed upon by all parties in Libya.” Al-Hassadi added.

Derna has been suffering from a siege slammed by Khalifa Haftar’s militias, which closed all the main roads to and from Derna, in addition to curtailing the flow of cash to the banks in the city and the continuous airstrikes by Haftar’s warplanes, leading to the destruction of many institutions, such as the recent shelling of Derna Power Generation Plant, thus plunging the city in long-hour power outages.
