The Mayor of Al-Jufra Municipality, Emad Rasheed, has lashed out at Dignity Operation for the relentless bombing campaign on the district over the past few days.

“Dignity Operation jet fighters have continuously bombed the district indiscriminately, hitting civilian homes and warehouses, killing civilians and livestock.” He told Libya Al-Ahrara TV on Tuesday.

Rasheed stated that their patience has worn out and that the district has never been a part or taken sides in Libya’s conflict since 2011.

He vehemently denied harboring militants saying, “We have never built any military bases in our district and any buildings that are here are the ones we inherited from the previous regime, even those buildings are but unfinished camps that are not occupied by any forces.”

Rasheed, in a desperate voice on air, stated that any forces that are in the district are there only to protect the populous from criminals, which is their right to do so.

“What is happening in Al-Jufra over the past days breaks all national and international laws, now instead of people struggling with their daily needs without cash, they are dealing with the destruction of a bombing campaign too.” He concluded.

Meanwhile, the UN-proposed Presidency Council released a statement on Thursday, strongly condemning the indiscriminate bombing of Al-Jufra, Hun, Sokna and Wedan.

The statement declared that the areas of the south are and have always been lands of peaceful coexistence and have never taken sides in the ongoing conflict. The Presidential Council concluded by requesting the immediate cessation of the ongoing bombing, which would certainly lead to more strife and bloodshed in the area.
