The Deputy Head of the Presidential Council, Mossa Al-Koni, called for the formation of joint committees between Libya and the Sahel countries to find solutions to the common threats to the region, stressing that the desert is an area that unites not divides.
Al-Koni said Tuesday at a regional conference in the Tunisian capital as he presided over the regional conference on border cooperation between Libya and the Sahel countries, in which ministers and officials from Libya and the five African Sahel countries participated, in the presence of the European Union representative to the Sahel countries, Emanuela Del Re, and representatives of the European Union.
Al-Koni stressed the importance of economic and security integration between Libya and the Sahel countries, given their human resources and capabilities, reaffirming the need to come up with integrative solutions during the conference activities.
The Media Office of the Presidential Council indicated that the conference chaired by Al-Koni is organized by the European Union, and it comes after his visits to neighboring countries, which ended with his extended meetings with European Union leaders in Brussels months ago at the European Union Commission headquarters to find ways for regional cooperation with Libya in cross-border issues such as illegal immigration, legitimacy, promoting the use of technology in border security, and combating organized crime.
The Libyan delegation participating in the conference included the Chief of the General Staff, Mohammed Al-Haddad, the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, Youssef Al-Aqouri, and the Minister of Social Affairs, Wafa Al-Kilani.
