Member of the Presidential Council (PC), Moussa Al-Koni, has hinted at Khalifa Haftar's involvement in the ongoing oil blockade in Libya, stating that "everyone knows who is responsible for closing the oil fields, both inside and outside the country, but no one is willing to name him."
Al-Koni emphasised that citizens in the Fezzan region are unable to approach the oil fields, questioning why production has not resumed. He suggested that oil sales revenue could be deposited in an external bank account without being touched rather than continuing the current shutdown, which has deprived Libya of oil revenue for years.
He went on to criticise the repeated closures of roads and institutions due to various crises, emphasising that it is always the Libyan citizen who suffers while officials remain unaffected and grow wealthier.
The remarks follow the August 26th declaration by Osama Hamad, Prime Minister of the east-based parallel government, imposing force majeure on all oil fields, ports, and institutions, halting production and exports.
Media reports indicate the shutdown was ordered by Haftar in response to the recent Central Bank crisis.
