The Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit met on Wednesday with the Deputy Head of the Libyan Presidential Council Abdullah Al-Lafi and his accompanying delegation. The two sides discussed the latest developments in Libya.

The spokesman for the Secretary-General, Jamal Rushdi, said that Al-Lafi reviewed with Aboul Gheit the developments of the political process in Libya, and the efforts of the Presidential Council to continue with the national reconciliation project.

Rushdi added that Aboul Gheit reaffirmed the support of the Arab League for all efforts that would advance national reconciliation and the political process in a way that could lead to preserving the unity of Libya, establishing security and stability, ending foreign military presence, and "integrating armed militias."

Rushdi indicated that Aboul Gheit welcomed Al-Lafi's statement about the Presidential Council's reliance on the role of the Arab League and its support for ongoing efforts to achieve national reconciliation, and the completion of the political process ending with national elections that allow for permanent stability in the country.
