The Deputy Head of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, welcomed what he described as the “international consensus” expressed by the UN Security Council during its latest session on several key issues.

In a post on his Facebook page, Al-Lafi said that the move was long overdue after a period of divergences that negatively affected the effectiveness of proposed solutions and the international role needed to support Libya’s stability process.

Al-Lafi added that the consensus marks an important step toward creating a more balanced political environment, one that enables the strengthening of national Libyan tracks and opens the door for more realistic and effective approaches to addressing Libya’s multi-faceted crisis.

Al-Lafi also hailed the role of the UN Mission in presenting a clear vision and well-studied priorities, which he said reflect a deep understanding of the real needs of Libyans, particularly in the economic and financial spheres.

He emphasized that building on locally rooted and Libyan-led initiatives is the key to any sustainable solution. He described the latest UN proposal as a practical starting point for supporting national initiatives and using them as a foundation for any successful political process.

Al-Lafi reaffirmed the importance of supporting the comprehensive national reconciliation project, overseen by the Presidential Council, which aims to close "the chapters of conflict and address the root causes of the crisis within a comprehensive strategy that ensures justice, fairness, and dignity for all."

He also expressed his appreciation for any international or regional efforts based on respect for Libya’s sovereignty and consideration of Libyan priorities, rather than imposed dictates.
