The Deputy Head of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, said that it was about time to begin designing a national strategy to advance the medical and pharmaceutical industries in the country in a way that can ensure broad participation between the public and private sectors.
Al-Lafi's remarks came in a speech during his participation on Saturday in the opening of the Libyan Conference and the First International Pharmacy Exhibition in Tripoli, which is supervised by the Pharmacy Department, Ministry of Health of the Government of National Unity, in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health-designate, Ramadan Abu Jannah, and the Minister of Economy, Mohamed Al-Huweij, Members of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, and a number of specialists and academics in the field of healthcare.
Al-Lafi stressed that this conference was important to the process of the medical and drug industry in the country. He has said he looks forward to recommendations that will provide practical guidance to establish a base for the pharmaceutical industry and develop quality standards in the supply and manufacture of medicine and medical supplies, to support the capabilities of Libya that is facing the increasing needs for medical supply items.
He reaffirmed the necessity of defining standards that guarantee the quality of medicines and medical supplies, to protect the consumer, and to ensure the effectiveness of the medicine in treating the disease, urging the experts participating in this conference to review this issue, discuss it in depth, find a solution for it, and develop strict rules that ensure the availability of medicine that conforms to quality and efficiency standards, while paying attention to scientific research.
