Vice President of the Presidential Council (PC), Abdullah Al-Lafi, met on Sunday with Stephanie Koury, the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, to discuss recent developments aimed at preventing escalation and reducing tensions among Libya’s various factions.
The discussion focused on crafting a robust political plan to resolve disputes, reassure all parties, and offer sustainable solutions for the Libyan people, according to a statement from the Presidential Council.
Al-Lafi reiterated the Council’s support for the UN mission’s efforts, underscoring the need for consensus and a comprehensive political process leading to national elections.
Separately, the Presidential Council unanimously voted to appoint a new Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, replacing Sadek Elkaber. This decision follows the House of Representatives’ recent move to suspend an earlier 2018 resolution that had appointed Mohammed Shukri as governor, citing the expiration of the appointment and Shukry’s failure to assume the role.
