Vice President of the Presidential Council (PC), Abdula Al-Lafi has welcomed the UN mission's statement, which expressed concern over recent unilateral actions by political actors across the country.

The UN statement follows a decision by the House of Representatives (HoR) to recognize Aguila Saleh as the Supreme Commander of the Army and to end the mandate of the current executive authority.

On his "X" account, Al-Lafi said that the UN statement was consistent with what we have previously proposed," referring to his earlier assertion that the current authorities and political bodies derive their legitimacy from the political agreement, and any actions contrary to that are null and void.

He reaffirmed his full support for the UN initiatives to achieve consensus among conflicting parties, emphasizing the importance of adhering to an inclusive political process that leads to presidential and parliamentary elections.

On Wednesday, the UN mission in Libya expressed concern over recent unilateral actions by some Libyan political and influential actors in the east, west, and south of the country.

It cautioned that such actions would lead to increased tension, undermine trust, and exacerbate institutional division and discord among Libyans, emphasizing that now more than ever, the need for consensus, dialogue, and Libyan unity is paramount.

The UN mission's statement came a day after the House of Representatives voted on Tuesday on a memorandum submitted by 50 deputies considering Saleh as the Supreme Commander of the Army.

During the same session, the attending deputies decided to terminate the mandate of the executive authority, referring to the Government of National Unity and the Presidential Council, and to consider the government appointed by the House of Representatives as the legitimate government.
