Libya's Foreign Minister, Najla Al-Mangoush, said she had discussed with her Maltese counterpart, Ian Borg, the opportunities and obstacles to opening the Maltese airspace to Libyan air companies and facilitating the movement of nationals between the two countries, noting that Libyans will soon hear good news in this regard in Tripoli and Benghazi.

She indicated in a joint press conference with her Maltese counterpart in the capital, Tripoli, that the two sides discussed the developments of the political process in Libya.

She reiterated the position of the Government of National Unity in support of building peace in the region and protecting the neighboring African and European countries from any dangers that may be caused by the state of tension in the region in general and the continuation of the transitional phases in Libya.

The Libyan FM stressed that Libya's stability is an international and regional interest, and expressed Libya's welcome to Malta's initiative to have a supportive role for Libya's stability and to adopt a defense mechanism within the European Union for the Libyans' right to elections and to end the transitional stages.

Al-Mangoush indicated that she discussed with her Maltese counterpart the issue of illegal immigration and the background of this humanitarian crisis, saying that the international community's neglect of Africa and the regions experiencing conflicts in the Middle East and the failure to move seriously to address the roots of the problems that this region suffers from.

The meeting tackled the file of oil, renewable and green energy, and how Malta can play an important role with the European Union as a gateway to generating alternative energy for Europe.

Earlier Sunday; The Minister of Foreign Affairs received her Maltese counterpart Ian Borg and his accompanying delegation in Tripoli, where talks were held between the two parties before they held a joint press conference.
