Foreign Minister Najla Al-Manqoush held talks on Wednesday with her Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio in Rome.

The two sides attached importance to the Libyan elections issue and illegal immigration.

A statement by the Foreign Ministry quoted Di Maio as renewing his country's full support for the stability of Libya and its keenness to enhance joint bilateral cooperation in all fields.

"Di Maio praised the efforts of the Government of National Unity to bring stability and make the electoral process a success."

With regard to the illegal immigration file, the Italian Foreign Minister affirmed his country's support and the European Union for Libya in confronting this phenomenon.

For her part, Al-Manqoush said the solution to the illegal immigration issue lies in establishing development and economic projects in the source countries.

She also emphasized the need to provide Libya with the necessary substantive and technical support as well as activating border protection agreements."
