The Head of the High Council of State, Khalid Al-Mishri and Malta's Ambassador to Libya, Charles Saliba, stressed during their meeting on Monday the need to support the initiative proposed by the Advisor to the Secretary General of the United Nations on Libya, Stephanie Williams, that aims to lead for holding elections, form a joint committee of the HCS and House of Representatives to work on finding consensual constitutional basis for the upcoming elections in order to meet the aspirations of Libyans and achieve stability.

The meeting between Al-Mishri and the Maltese ambassador to Libya was attended by the second vice-president of the HCS, Omar Bushah, as they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance cooperation in various fields.

The Maltese ambassador briefed Al-Mishri on the progress of the legislative elections that took place in his country on last Saturday when the ruling Workers' Party announced its victory, expressing his hope that elections will also take place in Libya as soon as possible.

Last month, Williams proposed the formation of a joint committee between the House of Representatives and the HCS consisting of 12 members, six from each side, to work on devising a consensual constitutional basis for the presidential and parliamentary elections, as Williams stressed the responsibility of Libyan institutions to show good faith in working and engaging together constructively to move toward holding elections.
