The Head of the High Council of State (HCS), Khalid Al-Mishri, promised Thursday the Maltese ambassador to Libya to facilitate the resumption of his country's embassy and consulate work in Tripoli.

Al-Mishri and the Maltese ambassador to Libya met in Tripoli and discussed issues of joint interest, return of Maltese companies to work in Libya and boosting trade relations between the two countries, the media office of the HCS reported.

The media office said the two sides reviewed trade and commercial cooperation amid the improved security conditions in Tripoli and in western Libya.

The Maltese ambassador said they had contacted the Maltese Commerce Chamber regarding working in Libya and boosting trade relations, saying his country is also considering the resumption of issuing Schengen visas to Libyans to enter Malta and European Union countries for trade, study and medical treatment.

The Maltese ambassador also indicated that tourist visas for Libyans would be available once Covid-19 controls are eased, according to the media office of the High Council of State.
