The member of the Tobruk-based House of Representatives, Mohammed Al-Raeid, said the current deteriorated state of affairs in Libya is due to the conflict for power among a number of political parties and figures, which killed many Libyans and destroyed the country.

In an interview with Libya Panorama Channel, Al-Raeid said the conflict had led to bad administration and made the reconstruction and development of the new Libya after 17 February lag behind, pointing out that he hopes that the current efforts to unify the HoR succeed and hold a meeting to endorse the UN-proposed government.

“The Speaker of the HoR shoulders the responsibility for what happened during the previous sessions when a vote of confidence for the government was on the table.” Al-Raeid indicated, adding that the Speaker is preventing the overwhelming majority that backs up the political agreement from convening meetings, while he is in support of the opposing minority, which obliged the majority to collect signature showing their endorsement of the government.

He also urged the HoR Speaker to apply the laws of the HoR or be ready to see them change by a number of HoR members living now in Tripoli, saying it is strange that the political agreement is being hindered after it has been adopted.

“I reiterate my support to the Presidential Council of the UN-proposed government, and I stress that the HoR exerted huge efforts to contain the chaos that now persists in the country.” Al-Raeid remarked, stating that the PC is a good but not a perfect solution for the current crisis in Libya.
