The Head of the Libyan Presidential Council (PC), Fayez Al-Sirraj, met with the US Secretary of State, Michael Pompeo, on Tuesday in Brussels and told him that the negative intervention of some countries should end and the US should play a role in that.

The media office of the PC said Al-Sirraj thanked Pompeo for the US efforts in stabilizing Libya, reviewing the economic reforms that have been passed by the PC to set straight the economic conditions in the country.

Al-Sirraj also informed the US top diplomat about the security arrangements that are being implemented in Tripoli, explaining that they will be executed later in the rest of Libya.

“We are looking forward for more cooperation with the US in economy, security and counterterrorism.” Al-Sirraj remarked.

In the meantime, Pompeo reiterated the United States’ committed support for UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salamé and his plan for a Libyan-led National Conference to be held in the first weeks of 2019 and the subsequent electoral process next spring.

According to the PC’s media office, Pompeo said the US is committed to supporting the reforms in Libya, saying there will be certain joint committees working in oil, energy and infrastructure as well as rebuilding projects.

Earlier, Pompeo described on Twitter his meeting with Al-Sirraj as “very good.”
