The Head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sirraj, has called for a more serious international stance against all of the factions hindering the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA), adding, in his meeting with the Italian Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano in Tripoli on Saturday, that the lack of commitment to the LPA is unjustified and is leading to more chaos on the political scene.

Alfano arrived in Tripoli on Saturday morning in order to review issues of mutual interests in a meeting with Al-Sirraj.

Libya's Foreign Minister, Mohammed Sayala, Al-Sirraj's political advisor Taher Al-Sunni and Italy's ambassador Giuseppe Perrone were also present at the meeting.

Al-Sirraj explained that Italy is supporting Libya in order to end the current limbo, adding that the elections he called for since last June as part of his initiative can lead to an end Libya's crisis peacefully and according to Libyans' own free will.

"The High National Elections Commission has started the registration of voters and preparation of the elections that will be held in 2018, but before that, there will be an elections law and a constitution referendum." Al-Sirraj further explained.

Alfano, meanwhile, reiterated Italy's support for Al-Sirraj's vision for peace in Libya and the efforts of the Head of the UNSMIL Ghassan Salame, hoping that those efforts would eventually bring about the elections privilege according to Al-Sirraj's roadmap.
