The UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Hanna Tetteh, held talks with Libya’s Attorney General, Counselor Al-Siddiq Al-Sour, to discuss a range of pressing issues, including arbitrary detention, corruption, and human rights.

In a statement published on its official Facebook page, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said the two officials explored strategies to address arbitrary detention and investigate allegations of corruption, while also stressing the importance of accountability and respect for human rights.

The meeting also covered efforts to combat organised crime and human trafficking—issues.

Tetteh reiterated the UN mission’s commitment to supporting Libyan institutions in tackling these challenges.

Meanwhile, Al-Sour welcomed the continued technical cooperation and capacity-building support provided by the United Nations.
