Fezzan Rage Movement protesters shut El Feel oilfield in southwestern Libya after one day of shutting Sharara oilfield in Ubari.

The movement said in a statement that the closure of fields and shutdown of oil and gas production comes after the inaction of governments toward their demands and the negligence toward the lack of security and the spreading of crime as well as smuggling in the southern region.

The statement also said that the deteriorated conditions in the south have become very dire that they have to buy fuel and gas from the black market with very high prices.

The movement demands support for military and security apparatuses to secure residents' properties and to secure the southern region. It also calls for health sector support, health facilities' preparing services plus contracting new medics and purchasing new medical equipment.

“We apologize from Libyans for such an escalation, but oil and gas precaution will remain shut till our demands are answered.” The statement reads.

Meanwhile, the NOC warned that the forced closure of Sharara oilfield would result in a production loss of 315,000 barrels a day, with a knock-on effect of 73,000 barrels at El Feel due to its dependence on Sharara electricity supply.

The NOC vowed to take legal action against the parties involved in “this heinous act.”
