The Audit Bureau has called for urgent action on financial and administrative issues within the government, issuing separate letters to Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh and Education Minister Moussa Al-Maghrief.
The letters highlight concerns about the management of public funds and the oversight of critical infrastructure.
Addressing Dbeibeh, the Bureau criticized the inactivity of a technical committee formed by the prime minister in early 2024 to address risks associated with the Wadi Majenin Dam. The committee -the Bureau noted- has failed to fulfil its mandate, posing safety risks to the dam and surrounding communities. It urged Dbeibeh to reactivate the committee’s work within a fixed timeframe to avoid potential disasters.
In a separate letter to Education Minister Al-Maghrief, the Audit Bureau flagged the ministry’s retention of approximately 32.5 million dinars from the 2021 fiscal year.
According to the Bureau, the funds have yet to be transferred to the Ministry of Finance despite repeated requests. It urged immediate compliance with financial regulations and warned of accountability measures for non-compliance.
