The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission in Libya, Wahida Ayari, has said that she supports holding the Tripoli consultative meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers with the aim of providing support to Libya, adding in a statement to the Libyan News Agency that holding such meetings helps establish stability in Libya, in addition to contributing to refuting the stereotype of the media reports saying Libya was a country of conflicts.
According to Ayari, who participated in the meeting, the African Union stressed in its statement the need to proceed with the national reconciliation project under the supervision of the Presidential Council, adding that it was important for the project to start inside Libya, and saying that whoever wanted to join can do so at any point.
"The African Union has no preference between elections and reconciliation, as they are two complementary demands, and their purpose is to gather Libyans around one word and one goal, which is to build one Libya, leaving aside conflicts and differences, in addition to moving forward toward the goal of national unity.” She added.
Tripoli hosted the 158th consultative meeting for Arab Foreign Ministers, which was chaired by Libyan Foreign Minister.
The meeting was attended by delegations from Algeria, Tunisia, Qatar, Palestine, Oman, Sudan, and Comoros, in addition to the Special Representative of the African Union and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya. UAE, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia's representatives didn't show up to the meeting.
