Baira: UNSMIL is the main reason why Libya’s crisis persists
UNSMIL is the main reason behind the current Libyan crisis, said the Tobruk MP, Abu Bakir Baira, adding that the conduct of the former envoy to Libya, Bernardino Leon, has tossed Libya in a dark tunnel.
Baira, who was formerly the head of the Tobruk Parliament dialogue team, told the Russian news agency, Sputnik, that there are a lot of mistakes being made currently on the ground in Libya, which all were triggered by the UNSMIL and the UN-backed Presidential Council.
“All Libyans are not supposed to depend on the UNSMIL for reaching a political solution in the country because the UNSMIL was not formed for the benefit of Libyan people.” Said Baira.
He also confirmed that the head of the PC, Fayez Al-Sirraj, is under huge regional and international pressure, which made him act in an illegitimate and unconstitutional manner as was agreed on in the political agreement.
“The international community can talk the talk but cannot walk the walk regarding the Libyan crisis; it is just on much ado about nothing.” He remarked, indicating that Libyans are in desperate need for the assistance they were promised by the UNSMIL, and unfortunately, they have not seen any so far.
