The Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, on Thursday, met with the Head of the Presidential Council Mohammed Menfi to brief him on the recent consultations with officials in Algiers, Brazzaville, and Rabat.
In a series of tweets, the UN envoy said the meeting was part of his ongoing consultations with all Libyan parties to find a way out of the political stalemate.
"I commend the efforts of the President of the Presidency Council, who demonstrated his patriotic commitment to responding to the call of the Libyan people to establish legitimate institutions and lay the foundations for stability, peace, and good governance," Bathily said.
He also reiterated his call to all Libyan stakeholders to follow suit and engage in the path of a national solution.
For his part, Menfi briefed Bathily on his consultations with other political actors.
Both sides agreed on the need for Libyan leaders to live up to the aspirations of the people and to reach a national consensus to end the political stalemate and lead to comprehensive national elections this year, according to the UN official.
