The Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Abdoulaye Bathily, met on Tuesday with representatives of youth organizations, networks, and students from across Libya to discuss his roadmap to elections.
The 26 young men and women expressed their desire to select their leaders and called for representation in decision-making processes.
They noted that one of the most significant challenges to public participation is shrinking civic space and violence against women.
To prevent further delay, the group requested the UN official to use his influence on political leaders to advance toward elections.
On his part, Bathily urged Libyan youth to have more of a say in the upcoming elections and ensure youth issues are addressed in the political process.
"The future of the country is yours. Youth should mobilize, claim their rights and express how inclusive, fair, and transparent elections should be conducted," the UNSMIL head told his interlocutors.
