Chief Huwaidi opposed eastern government's dismissal and remained in his post creating a shaky security for Al-Thanni-chaired government.

The Chief of Benghazi Security Department, Salah Huwaidi, has survived what appeared as an assassination attempt when a parked car exploded once his car passed on the Sidi Faraj-Huwari district road in Benghazi.

Colonel Huwaidi rejected to hand over power to Colonel Salah Al-Khafifi, who was appointed to take his post by the Al-Thanni-chaired government’s Deputy Interior Minister.

Col. Huwaidi has been reportedly hospitalized at the Libyan German Hospital in Benghazi after he escaped the explosion, media sources added on Wednesday evening.

Pro-Haftar forces are notorious for assassinating opponents to make room for new loyal ones to take their place, especially if the opponents showed non-faltered inflexibility, observers say.
