‎The spokesman for the Ambulance and Emergency Apparatus, Osama Ali, reported that an explosion occurred in the early hours of Friday morning at a military headquarters in the city of Zliten.

Ali said that some houses around the military building were damaged by shrapnel as a result of the explosion, adding that there were no casualties.

Some ambulance and emergency teams are still stationed near the building due to the presence of some live shells that did not explode and require transfer out of the area by specialized teams, according to Ali.

Sources from the area said a policeman named Abdulmola Al-Ashahab was injured in the blast.

The sources explained that the policeman works in the Anti-Illegal Immigration Authority, and that he was injured in the head and was sent to  hospital.

Zliten Municipality called on the security and military authorities to quickly deal with the ammunition depots, so that the recognized standards in this regard are applied in terms of keeping them away from populated areas and providing security and safety requirements in those places.

The Municipality stressed the need to open an urgent investigation by the competent authorities to determine the causes of this blast, as similar ones have occurred more than once, and to take the necessary measures to prevent it from happening again.
