The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said Libya achieved massive progress by the ceasefire, unified political institutions, and elections roadmap, adding that it's time the progress has been implemented.
Borrell, who is visiting Tripoli, said he had discussed with Libyan authorities support by the EU for elections in December and peace and stability in the country, saying the EU is with Libya's independence and sovereignty.
He said in a meeting with the Libyan Foreign Minister that 105 days are remaining for Libya to hold elections on December 24, saying legislations must be enacted in this regard and that the EU had provided technical support for the High National Elections Commission.
The EU delegation in Libya said in a statement that Borrell hailed the efforts of the Presidential Council in a meeting with Mohammed Menfi, especially in unifying state institutions, consolidating the ceasefire and national reconciliation, saying the EU is ready to support Libya in holding elections and achieving national reconciliation, expressing as well appreciation for the PC's steps to reform security.
Meanwhile, in a meeting with PC Deputy Head Mossa Al-Koni, Borrell discussed the issues in south Libya and the readiness of EUBAM to increase cooperation in border security and also in the sea as part of Operation IRINI.
