An expanded consultative meeting that brought together members of the House of Representatives (HoR) and the High Council of State (HCS) in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, discussed ways to advance the political process towards a comprehensive solution that ends the institutional division and leads to holding presidential and parliamentary elections.

According to a statement by 96 members of the HoR and 73 members of the HCS, their meeting resulted in an agreement that the political process must remain fully owned by Libyans through their official institutions, with continued communication and joint meetings between the two chambers.

The statement also explained that the attendees agreed to activate the outcomes of the tripartite meeting held in Cairo under the auspices of the League of Arab States in March 2024, which focused on restructuring the executive authority. They stressed the importance of the role of the UN mission, emphasizing the need for it to remain within its specified mandate, which is to support Libyan institutions in accordance with the political agreement.

They expressed their support for the Palestinian people's right to establish their independent state and their rejection of aggression against them, as well as their support for the Egyptian and Arab position rejecting their displacement, calling on the Arab League to take a firm stance in this regard. The two chambers agreed to hold their next meeting in one of the Libyan cities to take the necessary measures to implement what was agreed upon in Cairo.
