Canada's Ambassador to Libya, Isabelle Savard, has affirmed her country's support for the UN Envoy Abdoulaye Bathily's efforts in advancing international efforts to hold elections during the year 2023.

The Canadian ambassador made her comments during a meeting on Tuesday with Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeiba and his Foreign Minister Najla al-Manqoush.

A statement by the government said she stressed Canada's desire to develop the relationship with Libya.

Meanwhile, the PM called on the Canadian diplomatic mission to emulate other embassies and start functioning from Tripoli.

He also briefed his guest on the Government of National Unity's efforts to implement the elections and its desire to fulfill its duty in this regard.
