Angry locals blocked roads with burning tyres and stones in Tripoli's Hai Andouls neighbourhood on Sunday in protest against lack of cash in their bank.

Many customers queued outside Wahda Bank before dawn, but when the bank opened at 9.00 a.m, they were told that no cash was available, according to eyewitnesses.

All banks are now overcrowded with frustrated customers as many banks limiting withdrawals to LYD 300 dinars per day, which is not enough to satisfy the customers' needs ahead of Eid Al-Fitr that is expected to start next Wednesday.

The Central Bank of Libya has already ordered all banks to work overtime and on Saturday, which is off, to deal with the growing demand for cash.

Libyan families are used to buy new clothes and shoes to their beloved ones to celebrate Eid, the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
