At least four people died when clashes broke out in Zawiya City late Monday, the Ambulance and Emergency Service confirmed.
The killing of Abdul Razzaq Azait, an officer in a battalion, and the arrest of his younger brother were reportedly the cause of the fight, in which parties exchanged light and medium weapons.
A random shell killed two brothers in their home. Two security members also lost their lives in Monday's confrontations.
A cautious calm prevailed in the city after the conflicting parties declared a cease-fire.
The ambulance service urged all parties to show restraint and avoid provocative acts to maintain calm and spare residents further damage.
