Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that there is no other stakeholder in Libya that can play Turkey's role, adding in a speech Thursday, during the end-of-year evaluation meeting at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that the results of the Turkish role in Libya have been ongoing since 2019, in reference to the two memoranda of understanding, military agreement and the demarcation of maritime borders which were signed with the former Government of National Accord in November 2019.
Regarding the position on Greece, Cavusoglu warned Athens against trying to expand in the territorial waters in the Aegean Sea, and against being drawn into adventures and running after false showing-off, saying: "The end will never be good for you."
Cavusoglu also announced his intention to hold talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, following the tripartite meeting that took place on Wednesday by the defense ministers and heads of the intelligence services of Turkey, Russia and the Syrian regime.
The Government of National Unity and Turkey called on Greece in mid-December to stop the false accusations and escalatory measures, and to respect their sovereign decisions regarding the memorandum of understanding signed between them last October.
"The memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of hydrocarbons is a legal tool based on the principle of sovereign equality, with full adherence to the international law." Said the ambassadors of Turkey and Libya to the United Nations.
