Several local media outlets, citing unnamed private sources, reported that the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL), Naji Issa, has informed the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) of his travel for a work mission to attend an extended meeting with an International Monetary Fund (IMF) expert delegation, which will prevent him from attending the scheduled HoR session on Tuesday.
The sources explained that the meeting is of significant importance and requires the presence of the governor, accompanied by his deputy, the directors of the Central Bank in Tripoli and Benghazi, and representatives of Libyan ministries and institutions.
They added that the governor will submit to the HoR a package of urgent economic reforms proposed for both governments, stressing that if implemented and met with cooperation from all relevant parties, these reforms could fully pull the country out of its current crisis.
The Speaker of the House had earlier called on members to attend a hearing session with Governor on Tuesday regarding the recent decisions on the exchange rate.
