The media office of the Central Bank of Libya confirmed that it has monitored complaints and circulating images regarding the presence of boxes containing local currency into the parallel currency market (black market) at Souq Al-Mushir in Tripoli.
In media statements, the Central Bank stressed that it will take strict measures against anyone proven to be involved in the transfer of the boxes shown in the images and will immediately begin prosecuting those found guilty.
The Bank explained that the money boxes were originally intended to be delivered directly to commercial banks after being imported from abroad, in order to meet citizens’ cash needs.
It also emphasized the need to intensify the supervision of banks, currency management, and inspection teams to monitor the movement of funds and ensure transparent delivery to commercial bank branches, preventing any irregularities.
Footage circulated on social media allegedly showed boxes containing newly printed Libyan currency inside Souq Al-Mushir in Tripoli.
